Alpha-galactosidase is a glycoside hydrolase enzyme that hydrolyzes the terminal alpha-galactosyl moieties from glycolipids and glycoproteins. It is encoded by the GLA gene. Two recombinant forms of human alpha-galactosidase are called agalsidase alpha (INN) and agalsidase beta (INN). A mold-derived form is a primary ingredient in gas relief applications.

Dit enzym is een homodimeer glycoproteïne dat de terminale alfa-galactosyl-delen van glycolipiden en glycoproteïnen hydrolyseert. Het hydrolyseert voornamelijk ceramide trihexoside en kan de hydrolyse van melibiose in galactose en glucose katalyseren.
